How You Can Support Us (registered charity 1048903)

Prayer

Jesus attached much importance to prayer. He communicated with his Father through prayer, for example, Mark Ch 1 v35: ‘Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed’. Jesus taught his followers to pray to ‘Our Father’ as well.

As a Christian Ministry, we recognise the importance of prayer and that it needs to underpin all our work at The Mustard Seed.  Please, therefore, join us in praying for our staff, volunteers, trustees and all those who come in contact with The Mustard Seed: visitors, regular customers, those behind the scenes delivering food/drink and the contacts we have through our bookshop.

Become a Financial Friend of the Mustard Seed

Formerly our ‘One in a Thousand’ appeal, in order help us develop our ministry we are building a body of supporters who can give us a monetary donation each month.  Our ‘One in a Thousand’ appeal started in 2018 and we now have an established body of regular supporters.  We are grateful for donations of any size and if you are in a position to Gift Aid  then that would help us even more. If you feel that you can donate regularly please click here to download the supporters form.

One-off gifts and legacies are also gratefully received – please contact us if you would like further details.

Become a Volunteer

We are always looking for volunteers to serve in our café. Whether you can commit to a regular morning or afternoon once a week or fortnight, whatever you can offer we would be grateful to hear from you! Please stop into the shop and ask for Michelle for more information.

We are also in need of volunteers to help with the organisational running of the Mustard Seed. Specifically, we are looking for at least a few new trustees to join our board. In the short term we have vacancies for a new Secretary and a new Treasurer but would be delighted to hear from anyone with skills to offer in any of the areas of business/charity management, administration or finance. Please email chairperson@mustard-seed.org.uk with an expressions of interest or leave your name and number in the shop and one of our trustees will be in touch!

For more information about becoming a Trustee see here.

Bookshop.org

This is a new way to discover books and to buy online and offers an ethical alternative to Amazon whilst supporting independent bookshops.

How does it work?  Click on the following link:  https://uk.bookshop.org/shop/MustardSeedSidmouth.  On your first visit a cookie will be set and any future books you buy on the site for the next 180 days will automatically be credited to us – we get 30% commission on every book you buy.  Simply buy through our shopfront again to extend the 180 day period.

Yes, Bookshop.org is not perfect – its range of books is not as extensive as Amazon, it’s more expensive (although the price is still discounted against the recommended retail price) and you pay postage.  However, it is offering welcome support to an independent bookshop trade that needs to be cherished in this competitive and hostile climate.
